Where It All Began

I started in construction the way a lot of people in this trade do — as a kid, tagging along with my dad. My dad started K-Construction & Remodeling, LLC in 1985, and I was riding along on job bids by the time I was eight years old, handing him tools before I was old enough to really use them. Learning that a job isn't finished until it's done right, not just done.

That early exposure turned into a career. After graduating high school in 1996, I went to work full-time alongside my dad at K-Construction & Remodeling, building and remodeling homes across Minnesota for the next 26 years. Later, I carried that experience into other roles as well, and eventually came full circle — back to doing the work myself, on my own terms.

Every contractor has a first project. Eventually, if they're fortunate, they look back and realize those projects became decades.

These photographs aren't polished portfolio images. They come from a time before smartphones and social media, when the goal wasn't documenting the work — it was getting up the next morning and doing it again. They represent the years that shaped my approach to remodeling: solving problems, learning from mistakes, and earning trust one project at a time.
